SOLAR shopper research & strategy
When I joined this company June 2022, there were no research or strategic artifacts related to the customer experience. Yet we had significant goals to hit, like an entire product redesign for H1 2023. I spent a month that fall leading and conducting customer interviews and launching surveys and created customer archetypes and journey maps for our teams to use. Through workshops and discussions, we’ve now used these artifacts to strengthen a shared understanding and vocabulary around our customer needs and goals.
MY ROLE: Sole research lead and designer of archetypes and journey maps.
This work occurred over a 2 month effort and included:
Creating research plans and interview scripts
Creating tests and surveys to launch in UserTesting.com
Recruited and interviewed past company customers
Facilitating all interviews and coaching junior designers to support as note takers
Synthesizing research and creating research read outs for external teams
Facilitating workshops on journey mapping and archetypes to educate and get alignment on this work cross functionally to product and marketing teams
Shopper Personas
Journey Maps

I also created and launched a preference test of the existing product against competitors. Paired with interview insights and personas, this read out was a key deliverable in gaining traction and alignment across the broader product and engineering organization towards the importance of investing in good ux and design practices on the site.
